The Valley of Amazement
By: Amy Tan
"The Valley of Amazement" written by Amy Tan, is an excerpt from USA. The excerpt talked about the child named Lulu who had an extra fingers.
Lulu's grandmother wants to take her extra fingers away because she thought that it was a hindrance for Lulu. Lulu experienced discrimation for having extra fingers on her pinkies. Even her piano teacher adviced her to undergo operation. Because he believed that there are only few compositions for one hand pianist and none for six fingers. So, Lulu will be pity if she had to take up the tambourine due to lack of suitable instruments.
And Lulu had realized that she needed to protect the whole of which K named scientifically "My Pure Self-Being".
I realized that there's nothing wrong on having extra fingers. All of us have imperfections and what we need to do is embrace and accept it since its part of what we are now. Others judgements may hurt but what matters the most is being real for who you are. Swallow all those discrimination because it won't last by the way. Some people will like you and others will want you to become someone else.
