MALINCHE
By: Laura Esquivel
Malinche is an excerpt written by Laura Esquivel from Mexico. The excerpt revolves beyond the story of Malinalli also known as Malinche
Malinalli stopped serving Portocarro, her lord, because Cortes had named her "The Tongue" the one who became the translator. This job was an enormous one one mistake and the meaning will never be the same and it will be misinterpreted.
She learned Spanish at an extraordinary speed. She is completely fluent. And there Hernan Cortes became Malinche's lover at that time. And then they have a conflict and began to argue about their religions.
Both had exchanged different perceptions about their beliefs and at the end Malinche left Cortes with tears on her eyes. She found out that Cortes was not interested in her religion nor herself. He was only interested in the treasure and wealth of Malinalli's nation.
The lesson I got upon reading this excerpt was never to trust anyone you only knew not so long. Sometimes, they will only attached to you not because they like you but they are interested in the things you have. Sometimes, its not you they like but its your wealth. Some people don't love you for who are, they love you for what you have.💔
